Celebrate Detroit through the Decades on April 29 with legendary Detroiters Ben Wallace, Lomas Brown, George Blaha, Ken Daniels and Amyre Makupson

DETROIT– On Saturday, April 29, the Detroit Historical Society will welcome four legendary Detroiters to The Detroit Historical Museum (5401 Woodward, Detroit, MI 48226) for its capstone centennial event, transporting guests on a journey through the decades in celebration of 100 years of the Detroit Historical Society. The 100th Anniversary Celebration will support educational and outreach programs, including subsidized field trips for school children in Detroit and surrounding regions. The event will also support the Society’s millage campaign efforts for 2024, which will ensure that Detroit’s stories are told for many generations to come.

Celebrate Detroit through the Decades with some of Detroit’s true legends and brightest stars during the VIP Reception. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with a special ceremony honoring Detroit legends as they cast their handprints and signatures into cement for permanent display at Legends Plaza. Featured honorees include:

  • George Blaha, Legendary Pistons Broadcaster
  • Lomas Brown, Super Bowl Champion and Lions Broadcaster
  • Ken Daniels, Legendary Red Wings Broadcaster
  • Amyre Makupson, Acclaimed Television Newscaster
  • Ben Wallace, NBA Champion and Hall of Famer

The evening continues 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. and will feature a strolling dinner, silent auction, and special pop-up exhibits with costumed interpreters who will bring Detroit’s stories to life.

In addition, the Society will present its 2023 Moving Forward Award to the Hudson-Webber Foundation. The Detroit Historical Society’s longest running Foundation Donor with origins dating back to 1939, the Hudson-Webber Foundation is a private, independent grantmaking organization created to support organizations and institutions that move the city of Detroit forward. The Society’s Moving Forward Award debuted in 2017 to recognize inspirational and transformational leaders, as part of the Society’s award-winning project, Detroit 67: Looking Back to Move Forward. We are proud to honor the Hudson-Webber Foundation for its long time support of the Detroit Historical Society and its championing of the Society’s historical millage effort in 2024.
