Halestorm, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Russell Dickerson, Randy Houser and Collective Soul to headline 26th annual Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats and Eats

Labor Day weekend festival to showcase more than 200 national and local musical acts encompassing wide range of genres across nine stages

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Oakland County’s premier Labor Day weekend festival, the Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats & Eats presented by Flagstar Bank, will bring the beats back to downtown Royal Oak Sept. 1-4, offering dynamic live performances from chart-topping icons to legendary rockers to dozens of incredibly talented local musicians and acts. The 26th annual festival will feature more than 200 show-stopping live performances representing a variety of genres and sounds across nine stages over four days. In addition to music, family-friendly entertainment, art demonstrations and theatre performances are set to delight attendees of all ages.

On the Jim Beam National Stage, headlining acts include the multi-platinum 90s R&B/hip-hop icons Bell Biv DeVoe (“Poison” and “Do Me!”); Grammy award-winning hard rock band Halestorm (“I Miss the Misery” and “I Get Off”); legendary rocker Joan Jett & The Blackhearts (“I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “Cherry Bomb”); country pop singer-songwriter Russell Dickerson (“Yours” and “Blue Tacoma”); country singer-songwriter Randy Houser (“How Country Feels” and “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight”); and alternative rock group Collective Soul (“Shine” and “December”). Also performing on the Jim Beam National Stage is pop-rock band American Authors (“Best Day of My Life” and “I’m Born to Run”). The national stage will also turn up the nostalgia with throwbacks fromFleetwood Mac tribute band Rumours;Tom Petty tribute band The Wildflowers; Prince tribute The Purple xPeRIeNCE; and a medley of chart-topping hits from Your Generation in Concert.

LOCAL NEWCOMERS

This year, nearly 75 local artists, bands and ensembles will be taking the stage at Arts, Beats & Eats for the first time. Joining the jam-packed lineup on the Michigan Lottery R&B/Jazz Stageis powerful songstress Rēdi Choi, along with the young, energetic Gabriel Brass Band. The Soaring Eagle/Hornitos Rock Stage will add Animal with a fresh, new spin to classic rock, while the female fronted band The Detroit Fury will offer a gritty, bluesy rock & roll sound and New Twenty Saints will deliver a fun, high-energy performance.

For country music fans, the festival welcomes Grace Theisen and Sugar Lime Blue, both embodying a blues, Americana style. The Rachel Brooke Band will also join the Baker College Country Americana Stage for the first time, delivering a classic country sound. Meanwhile, the Bud Light Alternative Stage will feature Aaron Benjamin, whose horn-backed rock & roll brings a new kind of energy to the scene. Other newcomers to the alternative stage include Dirty White and the High Life Social Club, offering classic hip hop with positive lyrics over funky beats and Imani Bloom, who will deliver well-crafted lyrics filled with passion and personality. 

Hitting the Flagstar Bank International Stage for the first time will be ska, reggae and rock fusion Motor City Vibrations, along with Detroit’s own 5-piece, mixed-gender Mariachi sensation, Mariachi Jalisco. Sure to impress is Ensemble Hanabi, a group of multicultural youth with a focus on musical improv that is also making its Arts, Beats & Eats debut. Lastly, new to the Oakland Community College Cultural/Acoustic Stage is the enchanting Ernesto Villarreal; folk-pop songstress Joanna Sterling; and Flint-based, singer-songwriter Jason Waggoner.

House of Dank, Michigan’s premiere cannabis company, returns as sponsor of the House of Dank Performance Stage to deliver top house, electro funk and disco DJs including DJ Katalist, DJ Seoul, Walter Glasshouse and Joshua Adams; performances by hip hop, pop and R&B artists including Brayden, Julian LaHood, Nick Ryan and Sarah Marcus; breakdancing from the Motor City Street Dance Academy and various entertaining acts from the Motley Misfits buskers, as well as The Royal Runway! fashion show produced by Channel Iris, a creative studio based in Detroit. The fashion show will feature the hottest trends from numerous downtown Royal Oak businesses including Noir Leather, Bloboho, Jilly Rocks, Blue Jean Blues, Seven Eleven and Profit.

LOCAL HEADLINERS

Making her Arts, Beats & Eats debut and heading straight to headliner, the powerful and soulful Tosha Owens is set to bring her unique sound and style to the Soaring Eagle/Hornitos Rock Stage. On the Michigan Lottery R&B/Jazz Stage, the internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist Kimmie Horne is sure to deliver a captivating performance as one of its headliners. New this year, the Detroit-area heavy metal band Theandric will headline the Oakland Community College Cultural/Acoustic Stage, delivering a must-see, unplugged set. Returning to the festival but moving to a headlining spot is Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils, who will bring grit and soul to the Baker College Country/Americana Stage, while Virginia Violet and the Rays will deliver a fun, energetic set on the Bud Light Alternative Stage.

Among the local headliners are some familiar beloved local veterans, including The Reefermen, Alise King, The Persuasion Band, Killer Flamingos, Orbitsuns, Larry Lee & the Back in the Day Band, The Polish Muslims, Frame 42, Roots Vibrations, Sean Blackman’s In Transit and Tino G’s Dumpster Machine.

PRIORITY HEALTH ZUMBATHON

On Saturday, Sept. 2, Zumba fans can get ready to dance and sweat during the annual Priority Health Zumbathon, a fun, dynamic and high energy event that will benefit the Special Olympics. This long-running, favorite festival activity will transform the Jim Beam National Stage that morning from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. into a sizzling and exhilarating dance fitness explosion. In collaboration with Vibe Fit Studio, a prominent metro Detroit fitness studio, the event will feature more than 150 other local Zumba instructors from across Michigan, as well as students from Vibe Fit’s Fitness 4 All class for teens and adults with special needs. A registration fee of $10 includes parking, bottled water and a free admission ticket to the festival.

2023 FESTIVAL HOURS, ADMISSION + PARKING

Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats & Eats will be open 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 through Sunday, Sept. 3; and 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4. 

Tickets are $7 in advance. Admission is free before 5 p.m. or $12 after 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1. All other days, admission is $10 before 3 p.m. and $12 after 3 p.m. Cash and credit card transactions will be accepted at gate entrances.

Parking in Royal Oak Parking Garages will be pre-sold as well.

In 2022, the four-day festival attracted 365,000 people and generated over $332K to donate to local charities. Since the event began in 1998, more than $6 million has been raised by the festival for community and charitable organizations.
