Since 2010, The Expendables franchise that serves a tribute to classics like The Magnificent Seven, The Dirty Dozen, and The A-Team with Sylvester Stallone (Barney Ross), Jason Statham (Lee Christmas), Randy Couture (Toll Road), and Dolph Lundgren (Gunner Jensen) as middle-aged mercenaries for hire who are locked and loaded: ready, willing and able to take on anything as long as the job is real and the money is real.
Now, Christmas definitely came early with Expend4bles, a much better improvement than the somewhat tamed and “friendly” 2014 installment. Why? Because it is rated “R”, meaning the film is going back into basics, as the Expendables are back in the business of saving the world from bad guys.
This time, Statham is no longer second-in-command in this one. This film belongs to him, as he and the others are now joined by Megan Fox, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Tony Jaa, and Andy Garcia. You don’t need to know what the plot is, but there are a couple of surprising twists in it.
Still, Expend4bles proves one thing only: you can’t beat a classic.
