Dearborn, Mich. — It’s that time of year again, when ‘Holidays Nights’ 2023 arrives at Greenfield Village. As you stroll through the Village of more than 80 acres, buildings are decorated for the holiday season. You can hear Christmas musical performances/carolers in the distance, as we see some of the favorite family traditions from a century old come to life.
Sleigh bells, fresh greens, handcrafted goods, food and warm beverages line Main Street and beyond. The 1913 Herschell-Spillman carousel is free for the evening, along with a Model T ride and horse-drawn wagon rides. We gave the 1927 Ford Model T a try, how exciting that was! Ice skating was also available for the evening.
As we strolled through the Village, we were surrounded with holiday cheer and some of the decorated homes such as the Susquehanna Plantation where the kitchen table was set for a winter wedding. The bandstand near the covered bridge hosted the Christie Street Quartet singing their holiday favorites.
The Martha Mary Chapel had a live organ performance playing Christmas tunes. At the Robert Frost home, there was Santa on the rooftop, singing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” There were Christmas trees for sale at the Greens Market selling traditional balsam fir trees, wreaths and holiday greens.
And, if by chance you got hungry, you can taste the traditions of the holidays at the market stalls in the streets and trailers full of hot chocolate, mini donuts, cotton candy and more. For a more larger meal, visit the Taste of History serving your holiday favorites. The Lodge contained snacks, hot & cold beverages along with beer, wine and cocktails. Street vendors served roast beef or ham sandwiches, stew, roasted chestnuts, kettle corn and Old World almonds.
The Detroit Central Market had holiday crafts for sale, live music, food, beer and mulled wine along with hot beverages. There was no shortage of food or drink anywhere in the Village.
The evening finale consisted of fireworks. What a great way to end your festive day!
