Canton, MI – Canton Township is proud to once again partner with Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated – Ypsilanti, MI Chapter to host the Third Annual Juneteenth Community Celebration during Canton’s Liberty Fest on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 3:30-10 p.m. at the Heritage Park Amphitheater.
The special celebration, which is presented by WeatherGard, will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a special performance by the Detroit Social Club. from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m., DJ Z-Light will spin R&B and Hip Hop favorites. The main stage presentation is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with a welcome provided by Canton Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak. In addition, Jack and Jill of America Incorporated – Ypsilanti, MI Chapter members will present the Black National Anthem, a reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, and more!
Starting at 5:30 p.m., a ‘Learn to Hustle Demonstration’ will be held, that will teach participants how to hit the dance floor like a pro. From 6:30-7 p.m., Jack and Jill of America Incorporated – Ypsilanti, MI Chapter Community Awards will be presented, followed by a Gospel performance and another session with DJ Z-Light.
This special Juneteenth Celebration will culminate with a special performance by Larry Lee and the Back in the Day Band from 8-10 p.m. on the Heritage Park Amphitheater stage. In addition, festival-goers will also have the opportunity to shop local, Black-owned businesses throughout the event.
“After such a successful and well-received event over the last two years, Canton is proud to once again partner with the Ypsilanti, MI Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated to celebrate the observance of Juneteenth in our community,” said Laura Mortier, Recreation Supervisor. “This community celebration offers a special time to gather with family and fellow neighbors to honor and reflect on the historical importance of Juneteenth.”
Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2 – 19, dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic duty. Established in 1991, Canton Liberty Fest typically welcomes thousands of individuals each summer, who participate in Canton’s largest community celebration over this three-day festival, which will be held June 13-15, 2024. Popular activities include carnival rides and midway games; two stages jam-packed with live entertainment; marketplace; festival food; a fireworks display, and more! There is no admission fee to attend Canton Liberty Fest and parking is also free.
