Detroit – The Detroit People Mover (DPM) begins construction on its track on September 3rd, with an 11-week PAUSE in service. During this project, the Detroit Transportation Corporation (DTC) is committed to strengthening its connection with the community by offering a series of weekly events designed to keep residents and visitors engaged with not only the People Mover, but also downtown’s local businesses and vibrant entertainment scene.

The DPM Track Improvement Project is a necessary infrastructure update aimed at enhancing the safety, reliability, and longevity of the Detroit People Mover with replacement of 20 percent of original guideway rail. DPM is using the PAUSE as an opportunity to connect with Detroiters at ground level as well.

“The community has responded positively to our free fare program and upgraded experience, resulting in a 130 percent ridership increase from last year,” said DTC General Manager Robert Cramer. “While we’re completing the rail replacement, we are doubling down on our outreach activities – adding more creative ways for the community to share and help us build the service that works for them.”

Events are free and will be held at select DPM stations, each open for a limited time. Listings of activities and project updates are posted online at https://www.thepeoplemover.com/2024-track-improvement-project.
