Dearborn, Mich. — Pumpkins, ghosts and goblins, oh my!  “Hallowe’en in Greenfield Village” is a ghoulish adventure of Fall harvest-themed activities and costumed characters of the 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Oh what fun it was to walk the streets.  We saw Witch Hazel’s broom lot.  They sell brooms with new stock arriving daily.  They accept cash, spells and trade ins.  Oh wow they even have used coffin sales at the Village Green near the Lodge.  The Village graveyard undertaker was asking “Who’s next?”

The Hallowe’en Express train ride takes you on a 20-minute ride through the enchanted forest where you see ghosts, monsters and urban legends.  Ride if you dare!

The pumpkin quartet sings songs for your enjoyment.  This was located on the Noah Webster front lawn.  Also the Wizard of Oz was there as you follow the yellow brick road to see Dorothy, Scarecrow and the Tin Man.

New to the Village this year was the Werewolf disc jockey located in front of the Town Hall.  The spooky rock ‘n’ roll era tunes can be heard as you were in the area.  There is also live music every night at the Detroit Central Market Main Stage.  Tonight we heard from Devyn Mitchell.

Also new this year was the 1910 movie “Frankenstein.”  Produced by Edison Studios, it was the earliest known silent film of Mary Shelley.  It is about a young medical student (Frankenstein) who tries to create the perfect human being but instead creates a monster.  On Frankenstein’s wedding night, he is visited by the monster and a fight ensues.  When the monster sees himself in the mirror, he is horrified and runs away.  What a story, heh?

There were also free horse-drawn wagon rides as it strolled through the Village.  Storytelling was a big hit for the kiddies, located in several locations throughout the area.  Many stories such as “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” “Little Red Riding Hood,” and “Jack and the Beanstalk” were read, just to name a few.  There were family fun activities for everyone.

All in all, it was a great night.  Hallowe’en begins every weekend in October from Thursday thru Sunday from 4 pm – 9:30 pm.  Tickets start at $23.00 to $30.75 for members and $27.00 to $36.00 for the general public.

There are also dining packages at the two restaurants:  The Taste of History offers a Hallowe’en-themed buffet and the other offers a harvest supper at the Eagle Tavern, for an extra cost.  It. is recommended to purchase tickets in advance due to high demand.  Happy Halloween everyone!
