Dearborn, Mich. — Aaaaah!  It’s Christmas time at Greenfield Village for the 2024 Holiday Nights annual tradition.  Just walking around smelling the chestnuts roasting on an open fire, seeing the Victorian-costumed people from the 1800’s and early 1900’s greeting guests as they walk by, and, oh, can’t forget the carolers and live musical performances throughout the Village.  All this is what makes the holiday season special.

There were free Model T rides, free carousel rides, free ice skating, and free horse-drawn carriage rides that takes you around the Village.  We went on the horse-drawn carriage ride and had some musical entertainment on our ride; a woman played a guitar as we all sang Christmas carols.  Oh what fun that was!

The weather was in the mid 30’s, not too bad for walking around.  However, there were bonfires strategically placed throughout the Village for warmth.

Walking along the streets, we saw the decorated houses and shops.  There were food trucks along the route in case you got hungry.  Also a Christmas tree lot and greens sales.  Boy after all that, it really puts you in the Christmas Spirit.

Speaking of food, there is a Holiday Nights Supper with Santa package at the Taste of History Restaurant where you can have a festive sit-down dinner that is perfect for families.  The feast has a variety of dishes everyone sure will enjoy.  It also includes a visit from the big man himself, Santa.  The evening begins with a horse-drawn carriage ride to the restaurant.   Is that class or what?

We did eat later at the Taste of History Restaurant and had a wonderful pork and vegetables stew with a salad.  Yum.

Another dinner option is the holiday feast at the Eagles Tavern.  This 1850’s stagecoach stop features seasonal decor and an old-fashioned authentic holiday meal.  To keep historically accurate, this has communal tables with a family-style meal service, just as if you are dining in the 1800’s.

Holiday nights at Greenfield Village in Dearborn are every weekend in December form 6:30 pm til 10 pm.  Tickets are $30.50-$35.75 for members (10 percent discount for seniors) and $36.00-$42.00 for non-members.

The evening capped off with a beautiful fireworks display.  So come to the Village and enjoy some Christmas!
