Detroit — “Faygo where we go? We go for Faygo.” Boy does that date me or what? Faygo announced two new flavors that were launched last week to the market. Faygo Bubble Pop!, a bubble gum flavor and Faygo Super Pop, which is based on the Superman ice cream flavor which was originated from Detroit in the 1920’s.
We had the opportunity to visit the “House of Faygo” pop up and taste tested the two new Faygo products. It is the first time Faygo launched two flavors at the same time. If I had to choose, I liked the Bubble Pop! However, both were surprisingly good.
I spoke with Maddie Wein from Wink Talent Agency and she says this event brings positive energy to the city. “These two new flavors brings a twist of retro flavor to Detroit. It’s like girl and boy, pink and blue in color. (I got a chuckle out of that) It’s got a unique flavor and tastes like ice cream. That’s why this event is so important. My dad grew up drinking red pop. Red pop has been around forever. My family lived in Detroit.”
Emily Thomas, Marketing Manager for Faygo, says Faygo was founded in 1907. “The founders were bakers and they made frosting into soda pop. These two new flavors took a long time to develop. And we had a lot of fun taste testing them. Bubble gum is my favorite.”
When I asked people there, which was their favorite? Most people said Bubble Pop! I liked it too. It really did taste like bubble gum.
Along with the tastings, the pop up includes dancing from the Detroit Jit dancers. The Jit dance is an African-style dance with modern, jazz and tap with a lot of fancy footwork. T-shirts, sweatshirts and of course, Faygo pop is also sold there. There were plenty of photo opportunities also.
The pop up is open from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 4 and Noon-5 p.m. on Saturday April 5 and Sunday April 6. The location is 1001 Woodward Ave. in downtown Detroit.
The Bubble Pop! and Super Pop are on store shelves now at your local Meijer stores and will be in other locations soon.
