Restaurant Review: ‘The Horseless Carriage’ offers a unique dining experience next to Galpin Ford

NORTH HILLS, CA — When I heard there was a family restaurant located adjacent to a Ford dealer, I thought, “I’m going to have to check this place out.” It is called The Horseless Carriage and it opened back in 1966. The restaurant has an amazing rating on Yelp, four stars out of five.

Let me set the scene for you. Customers are looking at vehicles in the showroom. On the other side of the window, you can see people enjoying their breakfast, lunch or a full on steak dinner. Don’t worry about the sales guys coming over to convince you to buy a car. There is no high-pressure sales pitch if you choose to eat here. However, maybe you can get your salesman to buy your dinner as part of your “deal.”

I ordered the dinner portion of the breast of teriyaki chicken. It came with two, large chicken breasts that were marinated in Oriental spices, broiled and served with hot teriyaki glaze and grilled pineapple. My meal also came with fresh vegetables and a baked potato. You can get a soup or salad. I chose a salad with ranch dressing. They also give you a dinner roll. When I say roll, I mean one roll on a dish with a cup of butter. It was kind of funny.

My chicken was very tasty. It was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the large portions. I asked for a box and took the rest home for a second meal the next day.

A friend of mine I was dining with ordered an omelette. Hers was made with three eggs, potatoes or hash browns and toast with jelly or an English muffin. She also enjoyed her omelette and had a lot left over to take home with her.

The service was fast and friendly. I would say it took about 10 minutes to prepare our food. Prices are reasonable. Most items on the menu are between $10-$14. However, there are a la carte options. If I go again, I would like to try the half sandwich and soup deal for $8.95.

The Horseless Carriage calls itself “America’s 1st In-Dealership Restaurant.” I would highly recommend for Ford drivers and prospective buyers to dine here. Heck, you can even come if you don’t drive a Ford.
