The battle of New York made Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Black Widow into a team of ‘Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ known as Marvel’s The Avengers. Now comes ‘The war for New York’ that will make Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist into ‘a team’ called Marvel’s The Defenders – loosely on the word ‘team’ for a quartet of loners, outsiders, rebels, and renegades.
- Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox): the ‘blind ninja’ attorney who made a difference in Hell’s Kitchen as the lone masked man against organized crime and corruption.
- Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter): ‘The smart-ass detective’ with the resourceful reputation of being a short-fuse of a hot mess.
- Luke Cage/Power Man (Mike Colter): ‘The righteous ex-con’ who became a gun himself thanks to his unbreakable and bulletproof skin: one that Jessica, Detective Misty Knight (Simone Missick) and Night Nurse Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) knows all too well after having ‘coffee’ with him. Now, back in Harlem, Luke has work to do.
- Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones): the billionaire whose recent return to New York after his presumed death and the death of his parents 15 years ago made him into ‘the kid with a glowing fist’: a ‘living weapon’ of kung-fu, the sworn enemy of the Hand.
When Jessica Jones thought of herself as ‘a piece of s**t’, she may not have been kidding, as she, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, and future heroes-for-hire Power Man and Iron Fist need to get their own ‘s**t’ together in saving New York against an enemy (Sigourney Weaver) who vows to destroy them and everything – and everyone – they hold dear to … especially with the resurrection of Matt’s love Elektra (Elodie Yung).
Marvel’s The Defenders premieres Friday, August 18 on Netflix.
