Smallville Sunday: ‘Justice’

“Let’s go save the world”

That is what Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (Justin Hartley) said ten years ago when he founded and formed a team of individuals with abilities who are not only dedicated to the ideals of freedom and democracy, but the ideal of “Justice” in this titular episode from “Smallville”‘s sixth season, which remains a series favorite among fans like myself as well as the highlight of that season.

It was the Arrow that thrusts future Superman Clark Kent (Tom Welling) – aka Boy Scout – to stop flying solo and start soaring to new heights in the fight for truth and justice – especially the latter when it comes to Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), who’s planning on building his own private super-powered army with his Project 33.1.  And that is why Green Arrow isn’t building an army but a team that includes Boy Scout, Bart Allen/Impulse (Kyle Gallner), Arthur ‘A.C.’ Curry (Alan Ritchson), Victor Stone/Cyborg (Lee Thompson Young), and Chloe Sullivan/Watchtower (Allison Mack).

“Justice” lives up to its title, for it would’ve been the beginning of a potential spin-off, but it was still the beginning of Smallville‘s growing league of superheroes that includes Martian Manhunter (Phil Morris) and Black Canary (Alaina Huffman): serving as both a shield and a patriot in the cause of justice … against the rising tide of darkness and evil.
