Canton, MI –  Canton’s Summer Youth Musical Theater Intensive Program will present a special production of “Footloose: Youth Edition” on the Main Stage at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton, MI on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 1:00 p.m.; and Sunday, August 28, 2022, at 3:00 p.m.

This production is the culmination of Canton’s month-long intensive musical theater program for children ages 10 to 18, where participants immersed themselves in the world of musical theater while honing their performance skills and building creativity, confidence, and collaboration through the arts.

“This is the first year that Canton has offered this program that brings together kids from Canton and other metro Detroit communities.  It gives them the opportunity to learn what it takes to perform in a fully realized production on the Main Stage,” stated Jennifer Collins, Canton Arts Education Coordinator. “We are so proud of all that they have accomplished in such a short time!”

This family-friendly production is based on the much-beloved movie and full-length musical, “Footloose” which tells the story of Ren McCormack’s move from Chicago to a small farming town, where he prepares for the inevitable adjustment period due to attending a new high school, but is also faced with rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing.

Set to the rocking rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top 40 score and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, “Footloose: Youth Edition” celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, while guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

Tickets for these shows are $10 – $15 each and can be purchased online at or by calling the Village Theater Box Office at 734/394-5300.  Box Office hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays from 4-8 p.m.  Tickets will also be available for purchase at the Box Office one hour prior to show time.

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road, Canton, MI 48187, is a regional center for the arts that offers the magic of live theatre, soul-stirring music, the thrill of dance, and the enjoyment of fine art exhibitions and events, in addition to providing a home for several cultural organizations and community groups.  For more information about “Footloose: Youth Edition” or youth theater programs, call 734/394-5300 or visit
