The year is 2012…a
year where, according to the Mayans’ calendar so many years
ago, the world as we know it…would come to an end.
2012 featured
some highly acclaimed stars, including John Cusack as writer Jackson
Curtis, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Geologist Adrian Helms, and Danny
Glover as the president of the United States in 2012.
From the start of the
movie, the audience is informed that the world will incur the
most devastating catastrophe ever, since, in short, the world
is heating up like a microwave, and nothing can stop the process.
The process will cause buildings to fall, volcanoes to erupt,
and tsunamis to blow everyone and everything out of the water.
We also witness Jackson
Curtis and his family attempt to evade the cataclysm that is soon
to end the world. After they discover that ships are being constructed
in China—which are meant to preserve humanity for a designated
few hundred—Curtis and family take off to the location on
a plane. A major problem stands in their way, however—you
need tickets to jump aboard the ship.
Working together with
another family that Curtis used to drive around in a limo as a
part-time job, they band together to get to the ship location.
After a number of time-setbacks and hurdles, though, they manage
to finally arrive on board through an insider—a welder for
the ship—who takes them on board through the arks of the
ship.
Most watching 2012
would likely say they felt like what was happening in the movie,
was indeed reality (or could be reality), as the special visual
and sound effects were nothing short of spectacular.
The movie would have
been a bit better if the effects of the natural disasters were
not as exaggerated. For example, when Curtis and his family were
attempting to escape the natural disasters, it seemed as though
they were always slightly ahead of that tsunami, or that explosion.
Regardless, 2012
delivered, as the greatly-played characters, thrilling plot, and
film’s special effects outweighed that minor downbeat.
2012 was released
in theatres November 13, 2009, and is still playing at a theater
near you.
