ANN
ARBOR, Mich. — The Townie Street Party, now in its
9th year, is a kick-off to Art Fair week in Ann Arbor and a fundraising
event for the educational and community outreach activities of the
Ann Arbor Street Art Fair – the Original, a 501(3) non-profit
arts organization. Taking place on Monday, July, 15th from 5:00
– 9:30 p.m., the Townie Party celebrates all things local
and is our way of thanking Ann Arbor residents for so graciously
hosting the Ann Arbor Art Fair each year.
The Townie
Party offers a fun-filled evening for the whole family where visitors
can enjoy terrific music by some of the area’s most well-known
bands; grab a bite of Townie grub; enjoy a brew at the Townie Pub;
or take a stroll through the Kids’ Art Fair, which showcases
the work of young artists in grades 3 - 8. Community Central features
cool things to do in Washtenaw County and the ArtZone offers a chance
to explore your artistic side. The Party takes place on East Washington
Street between Thayer and Fletcher and on Ingalls Mall.
MUSIC
The Townie Street Party
will feature an evening of live outdoor performances featuring The
Macpodz, Dragon Wagon, and Seth & May.

The Macpodz
(8:05 PM - 9:15 PM)
The Macpodz impress
as only an open-minded band can, taking the core of genuine
American music and tossing in tasteful touches of world grooves
that rouse and comfort all at once. This Jazz Fusion jamband
musters up some of the most energetic music on the Ann Arbor
scene today. In the tradition of Miles Davis and Frank Zappa,
this ensemble pushes the boundaries of rock, jazz and fusion
music. Drummer Griffin Bastian and percussionist Nick Ayers
drive the rhythm behind bassist Brennan Andes, keyboardist
Jesse Clayton and trumpeter Ross Huff. Described as lush,
daring and incredibly solid, the music has been well received
by a broad spectrum of music lovers and those who just love
to dance. |
|
Dragon
Wagon (6:45 PM - 7:45 PM)
Dragon wagon can
be described as bluegrass folk rock with a shot of irish whiskey.
Formed in 2008, dragon wagon has brought their high energy
infectious blend of american roots music to some of the biggest
stages and festivals nationally. A great time or any crowd,
dragon wagon never disapoints with their live show, stocked
with humor, expert musicianship and one heck of a boot stomping
time. |

Seth &
May (5:30 PM - 6:30 PM)
Seth Bernard and May Erlewine, well-known to audiences as
single acts, have been performing and recording together for
over nine years . Now they are playing folk festivals all
over the country and concerts at venerable folk institutions
such as Club Passim in Boston and the Ark in Ann Arbor.
Already seasoned songwriters with six solo records each and
three duo albums to their names, Seth and May draw from a
deep well of American folk, country, blues and soul music.
May plays guitar, piano and violin and is a songbird reminiscent
of Patsy Cline and Emmylou Harris. Seth has drawn comparisons
to Woody Guthrie and Neil Young as a magnetic communicator
of ideas and a shape shifting folk rocker. They harmonize
their voices and instruments beautifully, believing music
can bring people together and proving so at every performance.
Like all the best folk musicians, they have the ability to
get everyone’s attention and still a room.
