BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- A fun time was had by all who attended the 36th Annual Belleville Strawberry Festival on Father's Day weekend. We went on Sunday, Father's day, and aside from the rain about 1 p.m., it cleared up the rest of the day. A variety of events took place starting with the arts and crafts at Trinity Episcopal Church as you enter the festival. Jewelry, woodworking, garden accents and apparel were under the tents. Food such as sloppy joes, hot dogs, nachos, strawberry smoothies, strawberry shortcakes, strawberry tarts, strawberry cheesecake and dipping strawberries were featured here. On Main Street were food vendors, craft vendors and carnival rides. The rides were provided by Arnold Amusements. Carnival food such as nachos, hot dogs and elephant ears were for sale here. There were camel rides for $5. New this year was The White Tiger Discovery Exhibit, which performed on Animal Planet, Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and many other venues. The Cinnamon Father's Day Car Show was held at Victory Park and the end of Main Street. It featured a wide array of vehicles from old cars from the Model A's to new cars like Mustangs. Attendees also had the opportunity to see muscle cars and streetcars. The park will hold about 150 cars. They usually have about 130 cars each year with that number increasing every year. St. Anthony's Catholic Church held most of the carnival rides with food and craft vendors, a beer tent with entertainment, raffle and bingo in the hall, and pony rides and a petting zoo. On Father's Day, there was Polish entertainment under the tent. There was a huge dance floor with people dancing the polkas. We also had Polish food in the hall. A Polish feast, it was. A platter of two stuffed cabbages, three types of pierogi, sauerkraut with kielbasa, corn, salad, strawberries for dessert and pink lemonade for $11. It was yummy! We had a wonderful time at the Belleville Strawberry Festival. We hope you'll join us for the 37th Annual Belleville Strawberry Festival next year!
