SAN
BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Bears
Eat Me is a new musical group that was formed in Fontana, Calif.
It consists of Ezra Echt on lead vocals, James Osyris on lead
guitar, Adam Wee on bass and back-up vocals, Garrick William on
drums and Thinzar on rhythm guitar. They started out with a progressive
rock sound, but later switched to an alternative style. One of
their songs, “The End of a Fairytale,” has already
received airplay on KCXX 103.9 FM. Bears Eat Me's new single is
a song called "Cancer." They are currently working on
a new untitled EP record.
"I
think as of recently we've been writing a lot more like Escape
The Fate, Papa Roach, stuff like that," Osyris said. "It's
a little bit heavier. We used to write soft stuff, now it's a
little bit heavier."
What's
the story behind your new single "Cancer"?
"We
actually haven't told the story of it yet," Echt explained.
"It's about our old drummer and his lifestyle. It's basically
calling him a cancer. It's the kind of person who parties all
of the time, but they don't ever pay any attention to the people
around them that matter. It's kind of an angry song."
Their
first album was a five-song EP titled, Listen to This.
"Those
were our first songs with Ezra," Osyris added. "That
was kind of our learning process that got our name out there.
We've gone through a lot of member changes since then. We've just
been writing like crazy. I have like 30 songs written and she
needs to write more. She has like five songs written completely.
That was kind of our old style."
Bears
Eat Me is currently in the studio putting the final touches on
a new EP, which is currently untitled at the moment.
"'Cancer'
is going to be on that one, we have a new one called 'Sweet September'
and 'Strange Boundaries,'" the lead vocalist said. "They're
all kinds of songs that relate to what's going on in our lives
in just an edgier way I would say. I think the biggest thing about
this album is that it's going to show how much we've grown and
how much better prepared we are to attack you all."
William
said: "Structurally, the songs are different. They're drastically
different from the first CD. It's kind of half experiment, half
more venturing into something new. But it sounds really, really
good. Everything just kind of clicks."
Osyris
explained: "I think we've matured a lot more. We're starting
to write a little bit more professional and write for the song
instead of just random stuff like we did before."
When can
we expect that EP to be finished up and released?
"I
say within six months, but not very soon," the lead guitarist
said.
The alternative
music band has played shows at venues such as The Glasshouse in
Pomona or The Knitting Factory in Los Angeles.
"Most
recently, I opened up a venue with my friend Randy called the
Infinite Hourglass and we've been holding local shows there,"
Wee said. "We've played there twice and we have one coming
up there on April 6 that I'm going to try my best to get us to
play. People come out, The Infinite Hourglass, and vote for Bears
Eat Me. It's a venue that gets local bands to play and I want
Bears Eat Me to get out there. James writes really good music
and Ezra is a great singer. These two right here need to get exposed."
Osyris
added: "We've played everywhere from Hollywood, mostly southern
California, we haven't really gone farther than that. We've played
everything. Hopefully, we're going to tour soon."
Their
next gig will be on April 6 at The Infinite Hourglass at 758 N.
Linden Ave. in Rialto, Calif.
"We
have some other shows that we might be playing soon also,"
Echt said.
One
of the band's songs has already received airplay on KCXX 103.9
FM.
"We've
had one song played on two different radio stations," the
lead vocalist said. "Then, we had two songs played on the
one. Our main one that got played was 'The End of a Fairytale.'
That was from our first album and it was played on X 103.9 for
the Pay to Play event and then it was played on Indie 104 and
a bunch of internet radio stations."
William
added: "Check us out on Facebook. If you ever come to a show
and happen to see us, don't be afraid to say hi. All of us are
really, really friendly. We love to connect to anybody who likes
to listen to our music. We put a lot into our music. If it connects
with you and it's something that you can understand the message
to, don't be afraid to talk about it. Just say hi, say hello or
just give us a high five, tell us how much you hate us, anything."

If
the group is not playing at venues like The Glasshouse in Pomona
or The Knitting Factory in Los Angeles, then you will most likely
find them playing events for their good friend DJPJ of Indie 104.

The
most well received song from the album, “The End of a Fairytale,”
was the first song written with Ezra in the band and is written
about the true story of the vocalists battle for her first love
and her attempts to move forward without him in her life.
