LOS
ANGELES -- Porsche debuted the
2013 Panamera GTS sports sedan at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It
comes a 4.8-liter V8 engine with all-wheel drive and it produces
430 hp. The Panamera GTS features more power, upgraded brakes
and a body lowered by 10 mm when compared to the Panamera 4S.
Porsche
had the seventh press conference at the auto show on Wednesday
afternoon. It took place inside the L.A. Convention Center’s
Petree Hall.
“It
has 30 more horsepower, brakes from the Panamera Turbo,“
said Dave Engelman, product communications manager at Porsche
Cars North America, Inc. “It is the purest expression that
we have in a four-door sedan to date. We have a hybrid version
of the Panamera. It is going on sale now and it joins the Cayenne
hybrid and the 911 GT3 race car hybrid.“
The Panamera
GTS comes with leather and Alcantara trimmed seats in five different
colors. The steering wheel has 12 marks on it to resemble a clock.
The front brushed aluminum door entry guards are adorned with
“Panamera GTS” lettering. It is also found on the
instrument cluster and on the embroidered headrests.
At the
push of a button, the 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe
(PDK) transmission transmits the engine output to the all-wheel
drive system during gear changes without interruption to the power
flow. It allows the Panamera GTS to go from zero to 60 mph in
4.3 seconds with a top speed of 178 mph.
“This
isn’t a limited edition model so it’s like the old
Dorito’s commercial, buy all you want and we’ll make
more,“ Engelman added. “Alcantara is a suede-like
material that is on the seats, the headliner and pretty much on
everything that you touch. The wheels are unique. The exhaust
pipes will have a black treatment on it that the regular Panameras
do not have.“
It comes
standard with 19-inch tires, however 20-inch wheels are optional.
Other standard features include four LED daytime running lights,
Bi-Xenon headlights and a multi-function display to inform the
driver about the instantaneous acceleration.
The Porsche
Panamera GTS will start at $109,900. The fuel economy will be
announced when it goes on sale in the spring. It will be built
in Leipzig, Germany.
