PHOTOS: A Tour of the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, California

When Queen Mary was bought by Long Beach, the new owners decided not to preserve her as an ocean liner.

It had been decided to clear almost every area of the ship below "C" deck (called "R" deck after 1950, in order to lessen passenger confusion, as the restaurants were located on "R" deck) to make way for the museum.

The old speedometer on the RMS Queen Mary. NOTE: It is in the "stop" position.

"Throw nothing overboard. Floating objects reveal our course to enemy submarines."

Visitors can see the only remaining propeller, which is still in the Pacific Ocean.
