IRVINE,
Calif. -- A
bus painted to promote the new Paramount Pictures film, The
Dictator, featuring props used in the movie, wrapped up its
tour on Thursday at the University of California, Irvine. This
was the 11th stop for the bus, which visited college campuses
in the southwest and plains states. Visitors had the opportunity
to wear a beard, stand in front of a green screen and get their
photo taken in the Wadiyan desert. In addition, they could taste
some Camel Toe Pâté on the bus, try out his new iPad
app, take home travel brochures and Wadiyan flags.
"It
was pretty interesting," said UC Irvine freshman Jasmin Rodriguez.
"They had app games in there. We played and got a raffle
ticket. No, we haven't seen the movie yet."
Sacha
Baron Cohen stars as Gen. Aladeen in the new movie. Anna Faris
and Ben Kingsley also star in The Dictator. The 83-minute
film was shot in three locations: Seville, Spain; Fuerteventura,
Spain; and in New York City.
"It
was pretty unique," said Guillermo Guerrero, another freshman
at UC Irvine. "A lot of gold. It's pretty cool for the most
part. I guess we should probably see the movie since we've gone
on the bus. We saw the trailer inside on the iPad and it looks
funny."
The tour
bus was definitely an interactive cultural experience for all
who stopped by. UC Irvine students, faculty and staff were among
the largest majority of visitors at the special event.
"My
favorite part was the urn with Kim Jong-il's ashes," said
UC Irvine sophomore John Kim. "I liked everything was super
extravagant with all of the real gold. The goldfish were made
out of actual gold. I thought that was funny. I'm planning on
seeing the movie. Yeah, I've seen the trailers. It looks pretty
hilarious. I've watched Borat and the Brüno
movie. That's pretty much it. Long live General Aladeen."
The
Dictator bus featured a photo opportunity in the Wadiyan
desert, a chance to try out the new iPad app and the opportunity
to sign anti-democracy petitions. Wadiyan travel brochures and
flags were also passed out. Visitors could pose for a photo with
Virgin Guards and sample Camel
Toe Pâté with pita chips.
"It
was pretty awesome," said Julianne Yarbrough, another sophomore
at UC Irvine. "It was really funny inside. I liked the Camel
Toe Pâté.
I saw the trailer, it looks pretty funny. I saw Borat.
That was one was funny, but was very shocking at the same time.
Hopefully, this one is just as good if not better. I'm excited
to see the movie after taking the tour."
The bus
also made stops in Los Angeles, Arizona, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma,
Kansas, Colorado and in Nevada. It was on site at UC Irvine from
Noon to 5:30 p.m.
"I
especially appreciated the Kim Jong-il urn," said UC Irvine
sophomore Andrew Hibbard. "I haven't seen the movie yet,
I've been busy. I'll see it this weekend probably. I saw Borat
and Brüno. I really liked both. I think this one
will be just as good, it sets the bar really high, in my opinion."
Cohen
previously starred in 2009's Brüno, 2006's Borat
and 2002's Ali G Indahouse. He is already working
on a new film called Mercury, set for release in 2014.
"I
think it's hilarious and I can't wait to go see the movie,"
said Sheila Redjai, an employee at UC Irvine. "I'm a big
fan of Sacha Baron Cohen. I was hoping he was on the bus. It's
a very luxurious bus. It has a kitchen area, a lounge area, lots
of gold, lots of chandeliers. Lots of photos of The Dictator
with other political figures. I expect it to be hilarious. I want
to know how I can win some tickets. "
Paramount
Pictures' The Dictator is currently in theaters everywhere.
It is a comedy with an R rating.
