Jane Velez-Mitchell is the host of HLN's Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell and a New York Times Bestselling Author. Addict Nation talks about her own addictive personality regarding her over consumption of food, alcohol, her job and spending habits. Addicted people have secrets and are liars, she says.

She talks about many cultural addictions such as overconsumption of things. America is using materialism to escape. Escape is the root of all addictions. The motive is always the same; to stuff down and escape painful feelings and unpleasant truths.

What about pharmaceuticals? Many famous people have died from an overdose of prescription medication. These drugs are totally legal but are prescribed by many doctors. Some of these drugs are just a mouse click away. How easy is
that?

There are addictions to the internet, being famous stars, sexual addictions, crime, procreation, food, cleanliness and war. She goes on in great detail to what these have done to society.

In this book, Velez-Mitchell says that denial plays a part in our society, and it's the bad behavior that is compulsive and self-destructive. The first step toward freedom from any addiction is to admit you have it. She hopes to make people realize that it is up to you to get help and therefore get well.

The book is very good and I would recommend it. Perhaps it will change your life.
