ROYAL
OAK, Mich. -- The
4th Annual Bras for a Cause event was held on September 15, 2012.
The doors of the Royal Oak Music Theatre opened at 6 p.m. It was
amazing to see the growth that has occurred over the last few
years. The attendance has blossomed and the funds raised is incredible.
Tom Callan, President, Board of Directors of Gilda's Club Metro
Detroit, thanked the staff and committee members for their tireless
work in making this event a continued success.
"Since
the opening of Gilda's Club in 1998, we have welcomed 7,200 people
to our cancer support community," he said. "Many women
have attended our new member meetings and support programs. Gilda's
Club is committed to ensuring that no one faces cancer alone.
With a global network of education and hope, we are achieving
just that."
Amy
Lange from Fox 2 News was the emcee for the evening. The event
was held in honor of Shannon Watson, who lost her battle with
cancer in 2010. Her husband, Kevin Watson, also a Bras for a Cause
committee member, presented the video on the survivors of breast
cancer.
Peter
Nielson from Peter's Principles spoke about "hope" and
living life to the fullest. Everyone has been touched by someone
they know who is affected by cancer, and together we can make
a difference.
Local
rock band The Hard Lessons provided the music for the charity
fundraiser.
Dave
Santia did a live speed painting demonstration. He painted Kid
Rock, Marilyn Monroe and Sparky Anderson to music. It reminded
me of what David Garibaldi and His CMYK's did on "America's
Got Talent." These three paintings were auctioned off during
the live auction.
There
was also a silent auction and raffle along with the highlight
of the event, the Survivors' Fashion Show. What a fabulous evening.
The event ended at 10 p.m.
