The
building bears the name of the late State Representative, Joseph
E. Warner. When the new gymnasium was constructed
in 1964, it was named in honor of him. The new building housed gymnasiums,
classrooms, offices, special purpose rooms, a swimming pool and
the Human Performance Laboratory. It also had locker facilities
for 3,000 students.

The
Porter Building houses the College of Education. The 133,500 square
foot building was designed to provide a variety of teaching/learning
environments, including extensive technology capability, for the
preparation of school personnel and professionals in related areas.
During the renovations in 1998 and 1999, work crews rewired the
entire building, providing state-of-the-art computer networks and
an up-to-date multimedia system for the building for a cost of almost
$2 million.

Architects
designed the new building for the College of Health and Human Services
to be both people friendly and environmentally friendly. According
to an article in the Eastern Connection, “Tables are made
of soybeans, newspapers and wooden pallets. Chairs and fabrics are
made from recycled pop bottles; floors from straw cork, recycled
tires and bamboo; ceiling tiles inhibit harmful molds; and low-odor,
solvent-free paints help ensure air quality.”

Auditorium was constructed in 1914 for $243,963. Initially, the
building was named for John D. Pierce, the first State Superintendent
of Instruction. Plans of the building had shown both the new auditorium
and, adjacent, new conservatory building to be named after the head
of the music department, Frederic H. Pease.
