Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Race Coverage on AmericaJR.com

Updated: Toyota Pro/Celebrity Field Announced!

The red carpet and race cars are ready as Toyota announced today the participants from film, television, music, sports and the military who will compete for checkered flag glory in the 2013 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race. The 37th annual charity race will take place April 20 on the 1.97-mile street course in downtown Long Beach, Calif., as part of the 39th Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. The field of racers will navigate the new 210-horsepower Scion FR-S race vehicles through high speed turns to benefit “Racing for Kids,” a national fundraising program supporting children’s hospitals throughout the United States.

Moderatto, Moenia to perform at Tecate Light Fiesta Friday Concert!

For the 12th consecutive year as the “Official Malt Beverage Sponsor” of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, Tecate Light invites racing fans 21 and older in Southern California to cross the finish line with carácter during one of the biggest racing weekends set for April 19-21. The cerveza brand will enhance their experience with live performances by Latin techno-pop group Moenia and Mexican rock phenomenon Moderatto, the Miss Tecate Light Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach competition, sweepstakes for a chance to win a VIP racing experience, discounts at retail and much more.

Medal of Honor Winner Dakota Meyer to be Sunday Grand Marshal

Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer will serve as Grand Marshal for the 39th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sunday, April 21, saying the most famous words in auto racing – “Drivers, start your engines!” – just prior to the start of the featured IZOD IndyCar Series race. Meyer is a U.S. Marine who received the Medal of Honor for his 2009 actions in Afghanistan. He also will drive in Saturday’s Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race, one of seven racing events set to run during the famous Long Beach, Calif. weekend. Since receiving the Medal of Honor, Meyer wrote Into the Fire: A Firsthand Account of the Most Extraordinary Battle in the Afghan War and fundraises with the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.

You'll see drivers Charlie Kimball (No. 83), Tristan Nunez (No. 18), Nick Heidfeld (No. 12), Michael Avanatti (No. 10), Bill Sweedler (No. 23), Nelson Canache Jr. (No. 45), Dirk Müller (No. 56), Oliver Gavin (No. 4), Bryce Miller (No. 48), Chris Dyson (No. 16) and Patrick Dempsey (No. 27). You'll also see fans walking along the food and beverage concourse and a bird's eye view of the race course.

LONG BEACH 100: Munoz cruises to victory, takes series points lead

Carlos Munoz won the Long Beach 100 almost by default. The pole sitter would have preferred competition over the scheduled 45 laps on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit, but an incident seconds after taking the green eliminated the cars of Jack Hawsworth, Zach Veach and Peter Dempsey -- the second through fourth starters. Eleven laps later, Juan Pablo Garcia and Mikael Grenier dropped out because of spins and contact. That left Gabby Chaves and Sage Karam to challenge the 21-year-old Colombian over the remaining laps, but the No. 26 Dialy-Ser car for Andretti Autosport was too strong.

Sato becomes 1st driver from Japan to win Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach

Amid the Victory Circle celebration for Takuma Sato, conspicuously absent and certainly missed was the team's inspirational leader, A.J. Foyt. Foyt was watching the NBC Sports Network's broadcast of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach from his Texas home as he faces midweek surgery to relieve back pain that makes it difficult to walk, so the all-time Indy car victory leader couldn't congratulate the first Japanese winner of an Indy car race in person. The celebration, nonetheless, was hearty as A.J. Foyt Racing claimed its first victory since July 7, 2002, at Kansas Speedway with Airton Dare behind the wheel.
