Mustangs
from the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show

LOS
ANGELES -- While there is no big news or announcements
from Ford for Mustang fans at this year’s L.A. Auto Show,
there were of course Mustangs at the show. Steve Saleen did announce
the S351 Mustang, and there were lots of Ford big wigs at the show.
But the emphasis from Ford was on smaller, more fuel efficient cars,
like the Focus, Fiesta and C-Max.
Of
course Ford had a Mustang alley lined with the usual suspects and
engines on stands. And the Mustangs continues to be a popular choice
of custom booths. Fresh from the SEMA show was the 2013 Ford Mustang
GT RTR Spec 3 by Mothers Car Care. I had a chance to see this supercharged
beast in action at the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational following
SEMA and let me tell you, it was VERY impressive. All show and all
go.
The customizers at Galpin Auto Sports – GAS – had a
2013 Steeda Mustang on display in the aftermarket hall. I am sure
the Steeda is very fast and handles like a world class champ, but
for some reason, it looked like it was riding high, like a 4X4.
The booth was a ghost town, so I didn’t have a chance to ask
about it. So a follow up article will probably have to happen with
the Steeda folks.
Also in the aftermarket arena for GAS was the always awesome widebody
Boss 302 in satin metallic competition orange.
Galpin
Autos had a heavy presence in the exotics arena, as usual at the
L.A. Auto Show. If not for their James Bond inspired Aston Martin
display, Shelby display and Lotus coral, the exotics would have
been mostly missing again.
As
for the Shelby cars, Galpin brought their 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby
GT350 Barn Find, sitting next to the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350
in Gotta Have It Green. But the heavy hitters also included a 2013
GT500 Super Snake and the widebody GT500 in white with blue stripes
and red interior.
So
