LOS
ANGELES -- General
Motors has BIG plans for the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. A yet-to-be-announced
new vehicle for Chevrolet will be revealed in Detroit on Nov.
11 ahead of its world debut in southern California. It is expected
to make front page news for the bowtie brand. However, we can
confirm that the Cadillac El Miraj concept, 2015 Chevrolet Silverado
HD and the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray will be on the
show floor.
"Once
again, we have a multiple set of announcements, new product news
coming up at the L.A. Auto Show in November," said David
Barnas, GM's Group Manager of Global Design for U.S. Auto Shows.
"First up, we will have a global debut of an all-new Chevrolet
product. We'll be confirming more of what that product is in a
few weeks, probably in early November. We're very much looking
forward to that. For Cadillac, we have some significant news as
well. Of interest is the Cadillac El Miraj concept car. That vehicle
was designed at GM's North Hollywood Studio and made its global
debut at the Pebble Beach Concours in August. Also, the all-new
2015 Cadillac Escalade, which made its global debut in New York
City just last week will also be on the show floor in Los Angeles
as well."
What
will GMC and Buick have on display at the L.A. Auto Show?
"For
GMC, the Sierra pickup truck is relatively new," Barnas added.
"It has been rolling into dealerships the last couple of
months. Significant new product for GMC along with the Yukon,
as well, which was revealed in September. Both the Yukon and Sierra
are both new products for GMC. For Buick, it's entire product
portfolio will be on display including the Buick Encore, which
is on the short list for North American Truck of the Year honors."
Can
you discuss some of the 2014 or 2015 production models that will
be shown?
"Of
note for Chevrolet would be the Corvette, the all-new C7, and
the Corvette convertible models will be on display in Los Angeles,"
GM's Group Manager of Global Design for U.S. Auto Shows explained.
"The Corvette made its global debut at the North American
International Auto Show earlier this year in Detroit. Again, for
Cadillac we've talked about the Escalade and the new Cadillac
CTS, which is just arriving into dealerships. Obviously, a very
strong Buick line-up with the LaCrosse and Regal and it's entire
portfolio will be on display."
Among
the four GM brands, will their displays be the same size as last
year?
"We'll
have the same general footprint so showgoers in Los Angeles will
certainly recognize that GM is in the same general space. Once
again, we'll have a little bit of a different configuration. For
the most part, the displays and the footprint will feel very similar
to last year."
What
can the media expect to see on press days?
"On
the first press day, November 20, we will have our global introduction
of the all-new Chevrolet product," Barnas said. "The
specifics of it are still forthcoming. That will be very, very
significant. For a lot of the automotive media who haven't had
a chance to see the Cadillac El Miraj concept car, that will be
on display in the Cadillac exhibit as well as the 2015 Cadillac
Escalade."
How
will the public show days be different from press days?
"We'll
have a lot of our similar consumer engagement stuff," he
added. "Obviously, we'll have all of our great new product
on display for Chevy, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. We will have a
level of consumer engagement in terms of the area where consumers
can make buttons in the Chevrolet display, a van where they can
make flipbooks. We very well could have some video games and plenty
of other activation as well."
Any
chance the 2015 Chevrolet Volt will make an appearance in L.A.?
"We'll
certainly have the Volt on display in the Chevrolet exhibit, but
it will be the 2014 model," GM's Group Manager of Global
Design for U.S. Auto Shows explained. "No new product news
from a Volt perspective in Los Angeles. That's a very important
product for the Chevrolet brand."
Do
you think there will be more diesel vehicles this year?
"We'll
obviously have the Cruze diesel on display in the Chevrolet exhibit.
All I will say is more product news to come."
Barnas
said General Motors will be participating in the ride-and-drive,
but could not list the vehicles that will be a part of it.
"The L.A. Auto Show is incredibly important for GM and all
four of our brands," he added. "The California market
is obviously the largest in the United States. It is a very, very
significant show for all four brands. We've got a couple of global
U.S. auto show debuts for Cadillac. We're looking for it. It's
a very important show for us."
