LOS
ANGELES -- Infiniti America introduced its Q30 Concept
to the media during its press conference at the 2013 Los Angeles
Auto Show. This new crossover vehicle features carbon fiber and
20-inch wheels with violet accents. It looks very futuristic in
design with deep uppercuts and intersections to create Infiniti's
"dual wave" effect. The Q30 Concept was designed by Formula
One Champion Sebastian Vettel. The interior features a two-tone
mix of crème and bronze leather. This new crossover was inspired
by Infiniti’s Etherea, Essence, and Emerge-e concept vehicles.
"The
Q30 shows the personality, the ambience, the authenticity you can
unleash when not chasing the status quo," said Michael Bartsch,
Vice President of Infiniti Americas. "Its shape deliberately
challenges categorization. Its a shape we believe will resonate
with today's young customers who refuse to be defined by labels
or convention. The Q30 Concept fuses the dynamic design and sportiness
of a coupé, the roominess of a hatch and the higher stance
and visual perspective of a crossover. With its sleek profile, wheels
at the corner, the Q30 Concept also offers the visual promise of
engaging performance and dynamics."
A premium
compact vehicle similar to the Q30 Concept will go into production
in 2015 at the Sunderland manufacturing plant in the U.K., marking
the start of Infiniti production in Europe.
He
also discussed the Infinti Q50, which features the world's first
direct adaptive steering. It also features Infiniti's InTouch System,
Predictive Forward Warning System, and the Infiniti Direct Response
Hybrid System. The new Q50 comes with a 3.7-liter, V6 engine producing
328 hp. It achieves 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway with a price
tag starting at $37,050.
"On
the second of October, Infiniti became a fully independent subsidary
of the Nissan group," Bartsch added. "We're headed into
the 25th year of Infiniti in the United States. At all levels, we
are taking decisive steps to sharpen our brand and globalize our
business. We just completed our vibrant operation headquarters in
Hong Kong, strategically placed for the all important emerging markets
such as China, while remaining closely connected to our dominant
market here in the United States. Along with our existing sites
in Japan and the United States, we'll soon begin production in China
and the United Kingdom."
By
2018, the automaker hopes to compete in 80 percent of vehicle segments.
Infiniti plans on growing their line-up by 60 percent in the next
five years. Bartsch added that the automaker will double the number
of its manufacturing plants.

The
inner spokes of the 20-inch wheels feature violet
accents. Graduating in intensity from inner to
outer wheel, this precise melding of contrasting
materials and color is a subtle indication of
the Q30 Concept’s unique personality.
