LOS
ANGELES -- Nissan introduced the Hi-Cross Concept to show
what the automaker has in store for future crossover designs and
technology direction. The vehicle made its North American debut
during the automaker's press conference on the first media day of
the auto show on Nov. 28. The Hi-Cross Concept features the same
fast-charging lithium-ion battery that's on the Nissan LEAF. The
Hi-Cross Concept features ample seating for seven passengers. In
addition, it has LED lighting and 21-inch aluminum alloy wheels.
No word on if this vehicle will ever make it into production, but
it definitely has a nice design.
"You
may see some of the elements on a current generation or it may be
a possible next generation," said Steve Roman, a Nissan product
specialist. "It has a hybrid drivetrain so you're looking at
a 2-liter, direct-injection gas engine with hybrid technology. It's
a one motor, two clutch system. That's going to give the driver
an absolutely seamless transition from electric power to gasoline
engine and back again as needed."
Can
you go over some of the interior features?
"This
is a seven-passenger, three-row seats while the second and third
row maximize your cargo space by putting the seats down," he
added. "Also inside, you have a T-shaped instrument panel and
rich leather used throughout."
What
about for the exterior features?
"Yeah,
we've got this cool lighting feature up front, the LED lights, obviously,"
the product specialist explained. "We have a bold character
line that runs from the front end all the way through the rear doors
and that V-shaped grille on the front end as well. It's pretty cool."
Any
other final comments about the Nissan Hi-Cross Concept?
"Stay
tuned. Maybe you will see some of these details on a future crossover
here at Nissan. We're very excited about it. Innovation for today
and in the very near future."
The
Hi-Cross Concept has an overall length of 183.5 inches. It's wheelbase,
the distance between the centers of the front and rear wheels, is
109.4 inches.
