Family
fun and exciting entertainment return when the Motown Winter
Blast presented by the Ambassador Bridge kicks off at Campus
Martius in downtown Detroit, Friday, Feb. 10 – Sunday,
Feb. 12. Festivalgoers will enjoy a lineup of favorite returning
attractions and can expect a number of new activities as well.
Making a welcome reappearance will be free snowshoeing, dogsledding,
and snowmaking.
Attendance
seemed to be a little lighter on the first day of the Motown
Winter Blast with an earlier starting time of 11 a.m. However,
the crowd definitely showed up in groves on Saturday. The 2011
Winter Blast features the return of the 210-ft. snow slide and
dogsledding races. It also includes annual favorites such as
free ice skating, free snowshoeing, free live music from 50
bands and lots of great food to enjoy.
Right
now seems like a great time to hold the Motown Winter Blast
with about 14 inches of snow hitting metro Detroit. However,
you still have to wait until the weekend of Feb. 11 - 13 to
attend the festival. The big news is that the 210-foot by 32-foot
high snow slide is back, with sponsorship from the Ambassador
Bridge Company. Secondly, there will be about eight to ten more
bands performing at this year's Winter Blast when compared to
last year.
Organizers
of the Motown Winter Blast announced their plans on Wednesday
morning at Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit. The festival
is scheduled to return from Friday, Feb. 11 through Sunday,
Feb. 13. Many of the same great activities offered at this
year's Winter Blast will be available at the festival in 2011.
Detroit's
Winter Blast will return to its roots in 2010. The festival
will once again be called Motown Winter Blast, as it was originally
created when Detroit hosted Super Bowl XL in 2006. All weekend
long, festival goers will hear 200 legendary Motown songs.
All bands, regardless of their genre, will play at least three
Motown hits.
Detroit's
Winter Blast is back in 2010 with a new name. The festival is
know being called the Motown Winter Blast, in honor of the Motown
Museum's 25th anniversary. The festival will also include an
ice garden, winter carnival, ice skating, marshmallow roasting
and much more. A third stage will include fun activities for
the kids to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday.
There
are five things going on this weekend: the opening of the
Winter Olympics in Vancouver, the opening of the romantic
comedy Valentine's Day, the holiday itself, my older sister's
birthday, and the Detroit Winter Blast. Though it started
a little late due to the recent winter storm, it still hasn't
put a crimp on the schedule -- well, maybe a little.
The Motor
City's annual wintertime festival returns with something for
everything at Campus Martius Park. The Winter Blast returns
the weekend of Feb. 6 - 8 with live entertainment, great food,
family-centered activities and a new "Made in Michigan"
theme.
Select
Detroit-area hotels are offering festival patrons the opportunity
to “Spend the Night in the City” at discounted
rates, allowing families to enjoy a mini-vacation closer to
home with all the attractions that Winter Blast has to offer
and allowing more time to shop, dine and play in Detroit.
The fourth
annual Detroit Winter Blast kicked off on Friday, Feb. 8 at
Campus Martius Park. The downtown area was transformed into
an event full of activities celebrating the coolest season,
winter. This year, festival goers were able to experience
same favorite activities from the past years, along with new
ones.
Last Friday,
the Detroit Winter Blast held its first film festival. The
Winter Blast Film Festival is a new venue that showcases Michigan
filmmakers. Hosted in a heated tent, the film festival showed
the varying talents of Michigan residents.
A line-up
of all the entertainment, activities and restaurants for the
fourth annual Detroit Winter Blast was announced Monday at
a traveling press conference in downtown Detroit. Participants
at the meeting were the first to experience some of the music,
food and fun before the actual festival weekend held on February
8-10.
For
the fourth consecutive year, Detroits Winter Blast will
return to Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit. The celebration
of winter experiences, dining, music and family fun will happen
Friday, February 8-Sunday, February 10. The event had been in
danger of cancellation due to budget shortfalls, and is still
looking for sponsors, but WILL take place and still feature
all the unique winter activities from years past.

combine the best of two worlds - - food and three of its top
selling vehicles -- when it kicks off a "Motown Iron
Chef" competition between three restaurants at Detroit's

prepare finger foods that fit the characteristics of a Chrysler
Aspen, Jeep Commander or Jeep Wrangler.
The 2nd
Annual Motown Winter Blast is expected to be 3x bigger than
last year. It will include ice skating, Model-T rides, a 200-ft
