LOS
ANGELES -- Early
rumors indicated that Cadillac was going to unveil the next-generation
ELR electric vehicle at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. However,
the ELR has been placed on hold. Instead, we saw the world debut
of the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V performance sedan and coupe.
It features a twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter V6 engine, producing
455 hp and 445 lb.-ft. of torque. The ATS-V will have a top speed
of more than 185 mph and the ability to go from 0 to 60 mph in
just 3.9 seconds. Upgrades include revised suspension and braking,
a performance traction management system, larger grille openings,
wider fenders and Recaro front seats in leather and suede.
"These
are the performance editions of the ATS that was launched last
year," said Shad Balch, communications manager at Cadillac.
"This takes the technology from the race track and bringing
it to the performance line-up that Cadillac is known for. It's
only fitting that since we're here in car culture that we unveiled
these two monsters here today. We're picking up drivers from our
competitors cars one by one. They're really proving to be what
we need to hit the exact target market and audience."
The ATS-V
sits on Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer only tires that have
been tested at some of the toughest tracks in the world. It comes
with six-piston front, four-piston rear fixed caliper Brembo brakes
with vented rotors for absolute stopping power. The interior features
Cadillac's CUE infotainment system, OnStar 4G LTE connectivity
with built-in WiFi hotspot. Passengers will be able to stream
music or movies from the car using this new technology.
"All
luxury elements of the ATS coupe and sedan have remained,"
Balch added. "It has the performance aspects, but all of
the design elements on the car are very deliberate. The scoops,
the air ducts, they have a purpose. They had to earn there way
onto the car. It's fair to say that there will be a little bit
of a premium for the V car over the base car. The cars represent
the best of what Cadillac is doing and gives a little peek about
what direction the brand is going. They are going to be exciting
cars to drive."
The all-new ATS-V will hit dealer showrooms beginning in spring
2015. Pricing has not yet been announced.
