Jason Rzucidlo was LIVE at the 2014 Connected Car Expo at
the Los Angeles Auto Show. In this video, watch for exclusive
interviews with Miles Johnson, Product PR Manager at Hyundai
Motor America and Emily from Apple Inc. CarPlay is the smarter,
safer and easier way to use iPhone in the car and gives iPhone®
users the features they want while allowing them to stay focused
on the road. Hyundai will bring Apple® CarPlay functionality
to the 2015 Sonata and then will expand it to their entire
line up in the future. Using a Lighting connector, CarPlay
works with iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5 running the latest
version of iOS 7.
Apple
CarPlay allows drivers to have most of their apps from the
iPhone appear on the 8-inch touchscreen in the center console.
Hyundai is the first mainstream brand to integrate this groundbreaking
technology into their highest volume vehicle, the Sonata.
It will allow consumers to make calls, use maps, listen to
music and access messages -- all by using their voice instead
of their fingers. The idea is to keep their eyes on the road,
but continue to use the technology. Hyundai says there will
be no extra charges as long as you have an iPhone 5 or better
and a Sonata with navigation. What about the data? That is
something you'll have to work out with your wireless provider.

debuts the all-new 2016 HR-V crossover vehicle. You'll hear
from John Mendel (Executive Vice President of American Honda
Motor Co.) and Jeff Conrad (General Manager of the Honda Division
at American Honda Motor Co.). Utilizing the Fit platform and
manufactured alongside the Fit at Honda's Celaya, Mexico assembly
plant, the HR-V will be smaller than both the CR-V and Pilot,
again (after the demise of the Element) giving Honda a range
with three CUVs. Pricing will be lower than the larger, Honda
CR-V, which starts at $24,150. The HR-V is based on the Urban
SUV Concept, which debuted at the 2013 North American International
Auto Show in Detroit.
Honda
first sold the HR-V crossover SUV overseas beginning in 1999.
It was sold in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines,
the Pacific Rim and for its home market of Japan. The main
criticism of the HR-V was the lack of a diesel engine option.
Production of the HR-V was discontinued in 2003 for the three-door
model and the five-door model ended in 2006. The Japanese
automaker showed off the Urban SUV Concept at the 2013 North
American International Auto Show. That design was turned into
the 2016 Honda HR-V crossover SUV, which made its North American
debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.
