LOS
ANGELES -- Kia introduced the second generation, or the
2014 model, of its Forte sedan. The vehicle made its world debut
during the automaker's press conference on the first media day of
the auto show on Nov. 28. It comes with a choice of two motors:
a 1.8-liter engine producing 148 horsepower and 131 lb.-ft. of torque
or a larger, 2.0-liter engine creating 173 hp and 153 lb.-ft. of
torque. The new Forte also comes with leather seating, navigation/infotainment
system, LED running lamps and a choice of 15-, 16- and 17-inch wheels.
"The
new KIA Forte is an all-new vehicle from the ground up," said
Daniel Tiet, Product Planning Manager of KIA Motors America. "Basically,
it is longer, lower and wider. Excellent proportions, more space,
better performance and more premium amenities."
How would
you say it is unique from similar vehicles already in the marketplace?
"For
our vehicle, the new 2014 Forte is a whole package," he added.
"Not only do we have excellent looks, but we have great features
and great value."
Can you
go over some of the interior and exterior features?
"The
vehicle has LED front positioning headlamps with optional Xenon
lowbeams," Tiet explained. "On the rear, we have LEDs
available as well. In the trunk, 14.9 cubic square feet, it's very
spacious. In the interior, a 10-way power adjustable driver's seat,
two-stage memory, heated front seats, heated rear bottom cushions,
cooled driver's seat, navigation with our UVO eServices."
Do you think
a hybrid or electric version is possible in the future?
"We
haven't announced any of that type of information at this time."
What about
the pricing and fuel economy?
"The
vehicle will start at under $16,000," the product planning
manager said. "We'll have fuel economy numbers a little closer
to production. The vehicle will be in showrooms in the Spring of
2013."
Any other
final comments about the 2014 KIA Forte?
"We're
very excited about the new Forte. This is a new addition to our
line-up."
